Exploring Koh Samui with Olivia & Joe Before Their Elopement

There’s something incredibly special about photographing a couple in the quiet moments before their wedding day. The slower pace, the anticipation, the freedom to explore without a timeline ticking in the background. Olivia and Joe’s engagement shoot in Thailand was exactly that.

As a Phuket and Koh Samui wedding photographer, I always encourage couples planning a destination wedding or elopement to build in time beyond the ceremony itself. The day before Olivia and Joe’s elopement in Koh Samui, we explored the island together, capturing relaxed, natural moments that felt true to them and to the location.

No pressure. No rush. Just connection, movement, and the most beautiful Thai landscapes.

Phuket and Koh Samui as Destination Wedding Locations

Thailand is one of my favourite places in the world to photograph weddings. From Phuket to Koh Samui, it offers incredible light, diverse scenery, and a sense of ease that’s perfect for destination weddings and elopements.

As a Phuket and Koh Samui wedding photographer, my role goes beyond simply turning up on the wedding day. It’s about location knowledge, timing, scouting, and helping couples feel confident and relaxed in an unfamiliar place. Engagement sessions like this allow couples to experience their wedding location fully, rather than just passing through it.

Engagement Sessions as Part of a Destination Wedding in Thailand

When couples travel to Thailand for their wedding, the experience doesn’t begin on the wedding day. It begins the moment you arrive. Engagement sessions abroad allow couples to slow down, settle into their surroundings, and feel comfortable in front of the camera before the ceremony itself.

For Olivia and Joe, this session became part of their destination wedding story. Exploring Koh Samui together the day before their elopement meant we could scout locations, understand the light, and create imagery that felt relaxed, cinematic, and effortless.

This approach is something I bring to all my work as a destination wedding photographer, whether I’m photographing elopements in Thailand, intimate weddings in Europe, or multi-day celebrations abroad.

Koh Samui Locations Perfect for Engagement and Wedding Portraits

One of the reasons Koh Samui is such an incredible destination wedding location is its variety. Within a short drive, you move from beaches to jungle to panoramic viewpoints, all offering very different backdrops for wedding and engagement imagery.

Silver Beach, Koh Samui

Silver Beach is calm, understated, and beautifully light-filled. Soft sand and clear water make it ideal for romantic, relaxed portraits that feel natural and unforced.

Overlapping Stone Viewpoint

For couples wanting something more dramatic, Overlapping Stone offers sweeping views across the island. It’s bold, adventurous, and perfect for couples who want their destination wedding imagery to feel expansive and cinematic.

Na Muang Waterfall

We ended the day at Na Muang Waterfall, surrounded by lush greenery and flowing water. Locations like this bring a sense of calm and grounding, and they photograph beautifully in the softer light later in the day.

Destination Wedding Photographer in Thailand

My approach blends natural documentary moments with gently guided portraits, always allowing space for real emotion and movement.

Olivia and Joe’s engagement shoot was the perfect beginning to their wedding story in Thailand. A reminder that some of the most meaningful images happen in the moments in between, exploring, laughing, and soaking it all in before the wedding day arrives.
