JUST IMAGINE having Mykonos engagement photography! Here’s my top 5 Mykonos photo spots. Be warned: it might just tempt you to book a holiday!

5 best photo spots for a Mykonos engagement shoot

Why you should have a Mykonos engagement shoot

Is an engagement shoot in Mykonos a bit extra? Definitely!! But just imagine having photos like this framed in your hallway! And you’re never going to say, “oh, I wish we hadn’t had our engagement shoot in Mykonos”.

And you’re getting married! It’s a big deal! So make a holiday out of it, surrender yourself to the whirlwind romance of it all, and do something truly special to celebrate your future together.

As a destination wedding and elopement photographer, I’ve captured couples’ love stories in beautiful and exotic places all over the world. But of all the places I’ve been, the Greek Islands hold a special place in my heart. The light is incredible, the architecture iconic, and the sea a stunning sapphire blue. As a holiday destination, Mykonos is wonderful. And for engagement photography, Mykonos is simply perfect!

So dig out your swimsuits, pack your suncream, and prepare for an unforgettable adventure.

Mykonos engagement photography hot spots

OK, so you’re tempted. I can tell. But where would we go for your Mykonos engagement shoot?

I’ve been lucky enough to shoot several destination weddings and elopements in Mykonos, and I kinda know my way around by now. So I’ve put together a list of photography hot spots in Mykonos we could visit on your shoot. The iconic shots you need to have, a few adventures we could go on together. And one or two hidden gems I’ve kept to myself until now.

And the good news is, they’re all within walking distance of each other! The bad news? We meet at sunrise!

1. The Mykonos windmills

The Mykonos windmills are the quintessential feature of Mykonos. And of all the photo spots in Mykonos, the windmills have got to be at the top of your bucket list. With views over the harbour and the village of Chora, they’re a beautiful place to see the island.

And because the sun rises behind them, sunrise is the best time for photos. Making them the perfect place to start your Mykonos engagement photography session.

And they’re easily accessible, too. There’s plenty of free parking right behind them. But in classic ‘Greek island’ fashion, the parking is a massive free-for-all, with everyone fighting for a space. It can get crazy busy during the day so I highly recommend getting there early if you want a spot.

Since you can see the windmills from pretty much anywhere on the island, they’re a doddle to find. But for their exact location, click here.

2. Mykonos Old Town

After the windmills, you can walk straight into Mykonos Old Town (also called ‘Chora’).

Chora is a beautiful example of a Greek island village. With snow white buildings, quiet cobbled streets, doors and stairways painted in the iconic Aegean blue, and vibrant Pink Bougainvillaea climbing the walls and overhanging archways. You really couldn’t get more ‘Greek island’ than Mykonos Old Town. And this makes it one big photo spot!

(It’s also the only part of the tour when it isn’t crazy windy, too, which gives your hair a bit of a break!!)

Scattered with shops, bars and restaurants, it’s a great place to get lost during the day, go for a wander, have a few drinks and soak up the atmosphere. But my favourite time to go is just after sunrise. As the rest of the island just begins to stir into life, the tranquillity of the streets is broken by just a few delivery men (and a few other photographers, of course!)

3. Church of Panagia Paraportiani

After the windmills, the Church of Panagia Paraportiani should be second on your Mykonos engagement photography bucket list.

With white washed walls, classic Greek architecture and little steps for you to walk up hand-in-hand, it’s perfect for that quintessential Greek white building shot. And since its construction started almost 600 years ago, it’s a real gem of stunning Greek heritage.

But just like the windmills, it inevitably gets busy during the day. So you’re always better off getting there early if you want a shot without loads of other tourists filling the frame!

Click here for the church’s exact location.

4. Kastro’s

Behind the church, there’s a little side street with a breathtaking view of the Aegean sea. During the day, the Katro’s restaurant puts its tables out here. So again, you need to get there early. But it’s definitely worth it.

Don’t you just love the dramatic framing of the cobbled streets with the wild sea in the background?! The deep blue of the sea, the whitewashed walls, the stone streets…ahhhhh! Take me back to Mykonos!!!

5. Don Blue Yachting boat trips

If you’re in Mykonos for a few days and you want to explore the island, booking yourselves in for a boat trip is a must.

Visit secret beaches that are inaccessible from land, have a swim, soak up the sun. And just spend some time together drinking in the romance of it all. It’s such a fun, intimate way to spend the day. And it gives you a chance to get some unique Mykonos engagement photos that are different from the usual tourist shots.

If you’re thinking of having a boat trip, I can personally recommend Don Blue Yachting boat trips. Snacks and drinks are provided, and the whole team is absolutely wonderful. Once they found out we were on an engagement shoot, they went out of their way to stop at different spots so we could take photos. And their playlist was BANGIN’ too!!

One thing I will say though: go to the toilet before you get on, because there’s no toilet on board!

Fancy a Mykonos engagement photography session?

Travelling somewhere specifically to have your photo taken is another level of effort. I get it. Even as a destination photographer, the level of dedication isn’t lost on me! So for the moment, let’s just forget the photos.

This is an incredibly special moment in your lives. You’ve found your soulmate and you’re going to be together forever! And that deserves celebrating, doesn’t it?! So pack your bags, change up some Euros, and jump on a plane in the early hours. And just spend some quality time together, away from normal life, in one of the most beautiful corners of the world.

And it’s this experience that makes destination engagement photos so precious. Because they won’t just be photos of you awkwardly posing in a nearby park. They’ll be cherished memories of an incredible, crazy adventure you shared together. And every time you look at them, you’ll be transported back to the windy hills of Mykonos, the caress of the Aegean sun on your skin. And the feel of your heart skipping a beat as you looked into each other’s eyes.

If you want to have a Mykonos engagement session and would like for me to join your adventure, I’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch today and let’s chat!
